It seems NetEnt has been picking up steam lately, since they are releasing new games much more often than a year ago. It’s now time for another new release from my favorite provider. And this time the game is called Big Bang Boom. Not to be confused with the discontinued Big Bang from 2014.
It seems that NetEnt went with a sort of graffiti, electric music type fibe for this new game. It’s full of neon colors and a pretty cool soundtrack. It gives this strange retro, futuristic feel. I don’t know how to explain it otherwise.
The game starts with 4 reels that are each 4 symbols high and 256 ways. But during gameplay more spots can be opened up, giving up to 10.000 ways.
Besides low paying card symbols you will also find different graffiti type symbols, like a heart, crown and butterfly. And there are all sorts of bomb symbols, which will be explained below. There are no wild or scatter symbols.

Avalanches
Winning symbols are removed from the reels and all other symbols drop down, new symbols than fall on top. And a new winning combination can appear. This keeps happening until no new winning combinations or bombs appear.
Expanding Reels
The game start with 4 reels that are each 4 symbols high. But there are 3 more rows of symbols above and below the reels, that are still locked.
Locked positions will be unlocked when a winning symbol appears adjacent to it, or because a bomb will explode a locked spot.
Super Bombs
The game comes with 7 different types of Bombs. These bombs explode in a certain way or pattern after all normal wins are paid. Bombs will also cause an avalanche.
- Vertical Bomb – Explodes vertical removing adjacent symbols above and below the bomb
- Horizontal Bomb – Explodes horizontal removing adjacent symbols left and right of the bomb
- Diagonal Bomb – Explodes diagonal removing adjacent symbols on the corners of the bomb
- Plus-pattern Bomb – Explodes in a cross removing adjacent symbols above, below, left and right of the bomb
- Omni-directional Bomb – Explodes in all directions removing all adjacent symbols
- Cluster Bomb – Randomly explodes between 3 and 5 locked spots
- Persistent Bomb – Explodes in all directions removing all adjacent symbols, but does it after each and every spin, only available in free spins
Free Spins Feature
You are awarded with 6 free spins when you manage to unlock all reels in the base game, which is 10 symbols per reel.
The free spins start with a grid that is 4 reels, 10 symbols high. But this can be expanded to 8 reels that are 10 symbols high.
During free spins only blank spots, multipliers and bombs appear. When multipliers land, they will stay on the reels until the end of the free spins feature. When a bomb explodes on top of a multiplier, ir will be multiplier by x2, up to a maximum of 2.048 times.
After all spins are done, you are awarded the total multipliers collected times your bet.

Verdict
NetEnt has released a couple of mediocre games lately. A game like 101 Candies and Beach Invaders, where fine, but not that special. But they managed to release a very unique game with Big Bang Boom.
Sure, the bonus with the multipliers isn’t anything new, we’ve seen these bonuses a lot lately. Mainly because of the popularity of the Money Train slots. But NetEnt managed to make it feel new and different with those bombs.
And also they picked a theme, or look, that doesn’t normally scream NetEnt. I would have never guessed this was a NetEnt release based on the look. Which I also appreciate when they surprise me.
Overall Big Bang Boom is a great game. The only thing that might disappoint a little is the maximum payout of 4.300 times bet. Especially since a multiplier can go up to 2.048 times.
